Is it love or is it Criminal?

Is it just me or are there more obsession/stalker songs out there? I know that these days anyone can be accused of being a stalker but the honest to goodness I’m-there-EVERY-SECOND-despite-knowing-you-DON’T-WANT-ME kind of thing.

In the 80s we had a classic stalking song—amazingly enough it was taken as a love song and used for weddings and etc—I LOVE this song—Every Breath You Take by The Police.

But now days it seems as if the creepy stalker lyrics are the big IT thing. My Bloody Valentine by Good Charlotte, A Piece of Heaven by a7x, End of This Chapter by Sonata Arctica, Paparazzi by Lady GaGa…I will Possess your Heart by Death Cab for Cutie, I know there are more but these are the ones off the top of my head—as they’re on my iTunes…LOL

Actually I guess every generation has stalker songs—Hello by Lionel Ritchie comes to mind as a stalker song from the 80s. Obsession by Animotion another 80s stalker tune…One Way or Another by Blondie from the 70s…even I Will Follow Him by Little Peggy March from the 50s gets into the stalker zone.

But honestly—doesn’t it seem as if more and more groups have at least ONE creepy stalker song on their latest release albums? Why are these songs so popular? Is it a sign of the worlds crumbling morals? Is it simply for the shock value?

I will admit I dig the tune to A Piece of Heaven by A7x. Its so Corpse Bride kind of thing…The lyrics are MASSIVELY disturbing but if you don’t sing along I can deal with it…

So why do you think stalker/obsession songs make such big hits? Is there really such a fine line between love and obsession?

I’m anxious to see what y’all think!
