16 Days of Halloween: Nature at its WORST! Animals in horror films

Posted on October 23, 2010

Everyday humans walk about in arrogance thinking they’re the smartest on the planet. After all didn’t God say he would give man dominion over the earth—all beast that walk, or swim or fly in the air? But how does nature feel when we abuse the bounties we’ve been given?

Hollywood posed that question and brought us some truly horrifying movies about everything from the birds in the air to man’s best friend.

I’m going to share some of the movies that scared me to death!

1 & 2. Willard and Ben:

3. The Birds (1963)—this movie managed to give me the creeps and even today when I see a large flock of them sweeping through the skies it gives me a chill…

4. SSSSS from 1973

5. The Swarm (1978) I’m allergic to them anyway so they scare me to death as it is…

6. Frogs 1972

7. Squirm 1976—this one grossed me out completely. Not scary just sick….

8. I’ve always been an animal freak and this move really kind of got to me, from 1977 The Day of the Animals was a chilling tale of what can happen when humans push Mother Nature too far.

9. I love dogs and I’m absolutely in love with Max. He was a beautiful dog. But thanks to man’s messing around with his genetics well… beautiful Max wasn’t really Man’s Best Friend…

10. One of these days I’m going to have a St. Bernard and I plan on naming him Cujo. An excellent story, a wonderful movie a terrific book. Am I the only one who felt sorry for the dog and was angry at the owners for not keeping him updated on his rabies vaccines??

11. And finally—the movie that made us ALL afraid to get into the water: JAWS! No movie list of killer animals could be complete without including this finned fiend. “We’re gonna need a bigger boat…”

Tomorrow’s movies will be movies about witchcraft and the supernatural. Tune in then!

P.S. While this isn’t animal life this movie still proceeded to freak me out just a little. After all, nature went bonkers! A movie that makes you go hmmmm….I LOVE M. Night Shyamalan (can’t spell his name though) The Happening…this movie gave me the chills!
